These fun 'apple imposters' cakelets, perfect for a thank you gift for teachers, are made with Duncan Hines Classic Yellow Cake Mix, filled with Creamy Chocolate Frosting, and decorated with Fancy Sprinkles.
Tip: Have all ingredients at room temperature.
1. Preheat your oven to 325F.
2. Add wet ingredients (eggs, milk, vegetable oil, Greek yogurt, vanilla extract) to a large bowl and whisk until combined.
3. Then add Duncan Hines Classic Yellow Cake Mix to wet ingredients and whisk until all is combined and smooth.
4. Fill a greased half-sheet baking pan with batter. Bake on middle rack for 20-25 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
5. Once cake has baked, place it on a rack to cool completely.
6. Cut out your apple shapes with a cookie cutter, slice each horizontally in half, and pipe or smooth Duncan Hines Creamy Chocolate Frosting in between the two halves.
7. Freeze for 15-20 minutes to set the frosting and make them easier to handle.
8. To decorate: Use Fancy Sprinkles Easy Candy, Acrylic Sticks, and "Teachers Pet" sprinkles to create apple stem and leaf details.
